Kings of Orient
A dazzling setting of the classic carol for symphony orchestra.
This setting of the carol We Three Kings introduces us to ancient kings upon their arrival in the city
of Bethlehem. I was inspired by my childhood recollections of a recording of the carol starring Mario Lanza
where each king was represented by a different voice with Mario coming in for the last, heroic verse. The first
king is imperial and presents gold; the second king is cultured, bearing frankincense; and the third is solemn,
offering myrrh. Together they celebrate the birth of a new king with music that resounds to the heavens.
